Momentous Moments in History (well my history, anyway)

12 April 1949
The world welcomed me with rationing and a deepening tension between East and West. Nothing to do with me I might add..
6 November 1975
I married Pauline one wet Thursday morning.. Things have just got brighter ever since (Honest, love)
18 April 1981
My elder son Edward is born. It's a Saturday in Spring and it's Easter time in North West England so it blows a blizzard and snows on the way home from hospital.
30 June 1983
My younger son Daniel is born. Ever awkward he's born in the early hours of a Thursday morning forcing me to answer the 'phone, get up and get dressed, get Edward (now just turned two years old) up and dressed and turn up at hospital before the day has even started properly.

Amongst My Personal Interests are

Jazz
You can't beat good jazz. Try Jazz FM on 100.4 or 102.2 if you're in England's North West. They are also on the Internet at http://www.jazzfm.co.uk. If you enjoy that try the Web site of one of the best jazz DJ's around (from Jazz FM, of course). He's Martin Kelner and you can see his site at MARTINKELNER.COM
I can never remember names or web sites so to help myself I'm going to start a little site which I update as I find something new in Jazz
Cooking and Baking
My family on my mothers side were confectioners (pies, cakes and bread makers) in and around Manchester, England, and I was brought up to regard cooking and baking as fun and a leisure activity which also ended (usually) in pleasant results. One of my favourite recipes is for a Christmas Pudding . It's not too heavy (as Christmas puddings go) but it has plenty of flavour and isn't particularly difficult to make. I make four every year simply because that's what the recipe, as handed down to me, makes. I suppose many years ago the mixture only made two good sized puddings for a large family but I keep the quantities as I don't want to alter a winning formula.
Reading
This is such a good pastime. You can do it on your own, almost anywhere and it needn't be expensive if you have access to a good public library. Have you tried the following....
Watching Manchester United
This is now reduced to a television pastime due the combination of increased prices and inability to buy tickets even at the inflated prices. To monitor progress I usually point my Web browser at the Manchester United Official Homepage or, even better, The (used to be Manchester) Guardian
Walking
Now here's a healthy pastime. You can't beat a good walk in the rain (this is the North West of England) with an icy cold wind at your back as long as it's followed by a nice long, warm shower back at home.
Cycling
I find this similar to walking from a pleasure viewpoint except that you either get out of the rain quicker or you can go a lot further without getting any wetter.

Andrews Family History
I am trying to trace my paternal line back through the ages. I've not got far though. I know my father (Ernest) was born in Manchester, England in 1909 and his father (Edwin) was also born in Manchester but in 1879. His father (James) though is a different matter. He appears to have been born in Partington, Cheshire, England in 1846 or maybe 1851 depending on whether you believe census data or marriage certificate information. In 1878 he married Fanny Tennant (in Manchester as you might expect) but at the moment his death is as much a mystery as his birth. Of course, he may not be dead but just very, very old. Anyone know of a 150 year old Andrews ?
